What I am Watching - TV - The Slap

TV Drama Series: The Slap (8 episodes)
Watched: October/November 2011
Synopsis: The Slap is an 8 part TV drama series, based on the novel by Christos Tsiolka of the same name. The story is told from the point of view of 8 different characters following the same event (the slap of a child) and the repercussions this event is having on a family and their friends.
Review: I am enjoying watching this series and I am keen to also read the novel. It is very interesting how an event can cause a series of interrelated issues snowballing and the effect this can have on relationships. The characters are all very self obssessed and flawed which makes the viewing very compelling. The story also raises some controversial topics, so aave a watch yourself and then we can discuss some of the elements. I am looking forward to watching the next episode tonight.

What I am Watching - Movies - Oranges and Sunshine

Film: Oranges and Sunshine
Watched: November 2011
Filmed: 2011
Directed: Jim Loach
Starring: Emily Watson, David Wenham, Hugo Weaving
Synopsis: Based on the book "Empty Cradle", Oranges and Sunshine is the true story about child migrants shipped from the UK to Australia in the 1950's and 60's. The story is depicted from the view of an inspirational woman (Margaret Humphreys) who once discovering this little known story works tirelessly to help the "child migrants" find and reconnect with their real families.
Review: A wonderful film. What happened to these children is very sad indeed and it is good that their story is finally being told and being acknowledged by both the Australian and UK governments, however very belatedly.
